Hello, my name is Connie Covey and I am an EdD candidate in Adult Learning in the Faculty of Education at the University of Calgary. I am interested in exploring the adult learning journey that occurs during a midlife career transition.
In particular, I am interested in hearing the stories of individuals who have experienced a planned or unplanned career transition between the ages of 45 – 55 and who may have applied spiritual practices from the Western Judeo-Christian perspective to define or re-define career purpose or meaning. The middle of life is a time when some individuals question the guiding principles upon which they base their career. In fact, the set of values that informed the first half of one’s career may be different from the set of values that inform the second half of one’s career. The purpose of the study is to examine the path of learning that occurs during a midlife career transition as individuals incorporate the values that matter most to them which may be informed by spiritual practices.
If you are interested in participating in this study, you will be asked to complete a 20 minute on-line survey which can be completed anonymously. Also you may volunteer to participate in two 45 minute one-on-one interviews (in person, over the phone, or via Skype depending on your location). In the interview you will be asked about your spiritual practices, your midlife career transition and the impact of your spiritual practices on your professional self concept.
Your participation is entirely voluntary. You are free to withdraw anytime, although data collected which you do not withdraw one week following completion of the survey or a one-on-one interview be will retained as part of the study. All information shared and data will be handled as anonymous and confidential. A consent form, along with the approval from the University of Calgary Ethics Board will be forwarded before participation in an interview.
If you are interested in participating, please complete the following survey.
Thank you for your consideration,
